FARMERS' UNION
7 he monthly meeting of the Mauku branch of the Farmers' Union was held in the Patumahce Hall on Monday, 23rd inst. The delegates to the Provincial Conference, Messrs Kemp and Finlay, gave a Ehort account of matters that were interesting to this branch, Mr Finlay having taken a note of th 3 aigumsnis for ar.d aeainst the different remits.
Further correspondence was dealt with in connection with experimental plots, and several members have now agreed to take up Borne of the work. Silver beet, lucerne, mangolds and clovers will be spplied for, Ait-r the meeting supper waß provided, and the "sing, read, recite or pay 6d item" found seven members more willing Jto part with a 6d than a eong. Others present provided items. HEAVY FROSTS.
Very severe iro3ts have been expeiienced in this district during the last few days, the fields being as white as srow in the morning*. What with the cold biting winds and the heavy frosts all stock are having a bad time, new grass being practically at a standstill and old pasture very short.
