OFFER OF METAL.
To The Borough Council.
To the last meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council Mr J. H. Hindmnn wrote as follows:—"Noticing by the 'Times' that your foreman is requiring a quantity of scoria for roads, I beg to bring before yon; notice ones again the material in my quarry. There are hundreds of yards of meterial here that I contend, on the advice of thosa who should know, is more than the equal of scoiia. This formation is of a nature which sets like concrete and has been very successfully used in stockyards and other yards as well as for paths around here. The cost of procuring this material would be very small, as it can be picked straight out of the face hto the drays or waggon?, and as the carting is all down hill on the best road in the borough the co3t of putting it on the roads must come to a good deal less than bringing scoiia on the railway. This material used! as a dressing over metal would make splendid roads as well. There is also here a quantity of what may be tinned second-class metal; this would do for side or light traffic ro3ds, and being easily procured would cost less perhaps than other materials you may at some time intend using. The above materials I am prepared to let you have at a royalty of fourper:ee per yard, while if you require any of the first-class metal I will want sixpence fier yard for it." Cr Hurley asked if the quarry had been inspected. The Mayor: Yes. Cr Bilkev said it was grand stuff to bind. Hs thought it should fce used .
It was decided 10 inform Mr Hindman that the Council would accept the offer if required.
