RAGLAN COUNTY ROAD WORK. Owing to the unprecedented wet weather r:ad work has been practically ceased tor the ssbeoi. Thanks to the untiring energy of thesi i.i charge great alterations ard improvements have been effected. The m-in road between the township and the bridge is now metalled the whole way, various other roads invc Ir.'cn improved and maintained, end a recetvc supply of 200 yards of metal for repairs is ready, crushed and paid for.
That the Riding Accounts show a credit balance is particularly creditable in lisht of the manv difficulties which confronted the present Councillor he took cilice seven years ago. At that time the Onr.wiiero riding liabilities amounte J to £IOOO, in overdraft and unfinished contractb. Within a year £I7OO worth of fl:od damage was inflicted. The Government came to th2 Council's assistance with a grant of £I4OO, of which Oncwhero received £7OO, leaving a deficit of £2OOO. The ijuery naturally follows: How was this amount liquidated, roads maintained and expensive construction works satisfactorily carried out?
