Most Successful Function.
The Pukekohe Lawn Tenni9 Club ai'2 to te complimented upon the success which attended their first danc; 1 , held in the Oddfellows' Hall last nigtil:. After a spell of most unpleasant weather the Glub was favoured with a perfect for dancing, and some forty coupler put in an appemance.. The staging was aitactively decorat'd in a scheme of the Club's colours and was as arrarged a3 to provide sittingous loom. As to the flour, it probably had not before been in tetter order and the absence of dust testified to its careful preparation. Misses Beresford, of Auckland, provided tha music, which, as U3ual, had alt the c v .arnr,in;? elements of exa t time and technical completeness. If the programme had a fault at all it was its length, and before the twentieth programmed dance was reached, at about 2 o'clock, only a few of the mora ardent dancers, or those with engagements to lili, renained. A tastv fupper was amply provided from Erlantlson's. The M.'sC. were j Messrs 11. H. Andrew, J, VV. j Johns and W. C. Cargill, whose attention to the exacting duties of their office did much to promota the night's enjoyment. As to tha dressing, many of the gowns were charming and it was generally ccnc d d that thi3 was the best-froeked gathering that has taken place in PukekohJ. In a senre it set the seal on the begin.in.» cf a period in which, in future social functions of a more important charactr, tne gatherings will be more briliiEnt than they were wont to be. Amongst the Isdies present were: Miss Gwen Bilkay, daintily cut pink silk, bead trimmings; Mrs L. J. Bayly, black silk, Indian tunic with gold scheme of bead trimming ; M s Grigor, white sa'.in, pearl embroidery; Miss Bartar, blue with clewdrop over-lace, touches of red: Mrs I. Motion, blue charmeuse.and ninon, oriental trimming; Miss Shipherd, green satin; Mies Mason, black velvet brightly relieved with white lace; Mrs Cargill, black silk, spangled net overdress; Miss Cargill, cream silk, overdress of lace; Miss McCowan (Bombay), vieux rose; Mrs R. Millar, cream «at in with silk trimming; Mies FaUell (Otahuhu), pretty shot silk; Mrs J. W. Johni, cream; Miss Parry, cream satin, silk fringe trimming; Miss Bagnall, white merveillsux silk ; Miss Lennon, cream net; Miss JefTeris, Dlue silk; Mis 3 Delia Mc'Jrory, pale blua satin; Miss W. Webstar, cream silK; Miss E. Ramsay, pink ninon tunic, over eatin; Miss McCowen, pale blue voile; Mrs Dell, black silk and black net overskirt; Miss Dell, white glace silk, with ret overskirt; Miss K. Roger?, prey ninon with satin trimmings; IViis3 A. Pullerg, cream silk witn pearl trimming; Miss Graham, gi\y silk, Oriental trimming; Miss V. Webster, pale blue silk; Mrs 11. 11. D.
