FARMERS' UNION.
Annual Meeting of Drury Branch. The annual meeting of the Drury branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held in the public »>all on the 22nd inst. Tne President, Mr J. Flanagan, occupier) the chair. Mr Fielding, the hen. secretary, read the y arly statement of accounts. The Chairman, who is also a member of ihe Executive, «ave an interesting review of the Union's operation during the past year. Mr Flanagan was re-eleciea president, and Mr Fielding hon. secretary, for the ensuing 5 ear. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded both pentlemen for services rendered during the year. One new member was admitted. COUNTRY WORKERS' HOMES. The Executive's scheme for country workers' homes was discussed at considerable length. But tne unanimous opinion of the meeting appeared to be that the scheme would not work. One speaker said he thought that oeUleis would be very shy of the guarantee clause, and asked wimt security could be provided against ihe possibility of a worker occupying one uf tne homes anr*, say, accepting #ork elsewhere, and not being available when the farmer needed his help. On the motion of Mr Glasson, seconded by Mr Nettlinghan, the following resolution was unanimously carried:—"That while appreciating tne motive that i<rompted the Executive in formulating this sen me. this branch consilers that this scheme, or pro'»ablv any similar scheme, would have nc effect in solving the farm labour difficulty." TRADING ASSOCIATION. Complaint was made that persons at times were accepted hi members of the Tiading As ociat.on before first becoming members of the Farniers's Union, also that in many cases the annual subsiri tioi was not pail as the articles of the Tradinu Association provided.-It was resolved that the following be forward a? a remit for consideration at the Auckland conference : "That upon aoy person desiring to join the Trading Association in Auckland, i who is no- already a financial . member of a branch of (he New Zca- ' land Farmers' Union, the Auckland J secretary collect first y ar's subscrip- , ■ions and for.vard same tc tis j branch secretary " The Chairman was appointed delepale to the Auckland Provincial Conference.
