Council Consider It Unnecessary. A letter from Mr E. Gilroy. urging the importance of the purciiase of road-making machinery, was read at tlie meeting of th? Pukekohe Borough Council on Wednesday night and aioused a discussion, despite the lateutss or ttie hour. "What shall we say?" asked one Councillor Cr Pollock: Tell him there's an election in April and he cat stand then. Cr Comrie: I have always advocated a roller. Crs Bilkey and Hamilton, in unison: What are you going to roll? The Foreman, in reply to a question, considered a roller could wait for the present. Cr Comrie strongly defended the purchase of a roller. Until they got a roller they could net expert decent roads. Cr Hamilton: What are you going to pav the men's wages out of, and how often are you going to use the roller? Cr Comrie: l'ha wages come out of the loan monies. Cr Hamilton: I would seiner have a chain or two tnore metal upon my road than the roller. Cr .Johns said if they cuuld alforil to blind and water the metal as they rlii! in cities, then the ridltr would he alright. Cr Bilkey pointed out the neceasity for surfacermti to till in the ruts. Cr Pullock: When the loan monies are sp<\it how much metal will there be to roll? Cr Comrie: When the loan monies are spent there will be pl-M ty of reads that will nred doing. He be lieveii in doing the roads properly and well. Cr Hamilton: You cannot make good roads on £IOU(J ner milt The letter was laid on the table.
