Registration Regulations. Some New Departures. The formation of Pukekohe into a borouah brings it more directly under c rtain important change* in the Births and Deaths Registration Act, which come into force on Saturday iifcxt. People outside the borough are affected in a different way. The local registrar. Mr R. K. Wefcs'.er, hai brought these changes under our notice, and the following is printed for the benefit of our readers. One*of gihe. most impor tant provision amongst the new regulations is that st.ll birtns have to be notified andj-egietered. The time for the notification to the registrar of a birth in a bo.ough has been rtduced from 72 hours to 48 hours, while in thu case of birtrs outside boroughs, tha 21 days' limit is to remain. When a person gives notification of a birth, the usual address of the parents must be stated, and the notification is to te endorsed by some person present at the birth. B The necessity, under the present Education Act, of boys and girls being often required to produce their birth certificates has been the subject of levuw by the authorities. Under ths amended Act pare: ts whose children have secured proficiency certificates, giving them fiee places to the secondary schools, may obtain tirth certificates in future ftr Is, instead of 2i 6d, as at present. Owirg to laxity on the part of parents, and to other causes, many births have never been registered. The new regulations provide that any peison who is not registered may be registered up till November 6th, 1913—12 months after the passing cf the amending Act, In the case of death registration, the following amendment comes into force at the en-1 of the week.—'lhe undertake: becomes solely responsible for the registration of a death, an rfgistration must be effected within three days after death if it takes place in a borough, or within s?ven rays in any other case. In future, also, the age of the widow must be given with the notification of her husband's deatb, this being for statistical purposes. Certificate of causa of death is in future to be given by a medical practitioner Lrth,\ifr, and the letter is requited to ftate, to the best of his knowledge, the duration of the illness preceding death.
