The postal authorities have spoke 1 to ua about the letter-receivers in tne borough ot Puktkohe, which m ;3t of the pt.-ple in the delivery area have erctid. Some ot them are boxes which safely op rated by a key, but many more are merely ope.i tins into which any vagrant hand might be thrust. What the official■? -say is that it is quite unsafe to leave letters there, particularly wh:;n the householder ii away from home. In che evert of a commirwcaiion s ing' astray I here is bound to be trouble for someone. Consequently, the Pjst Oflice is seriously considering its responsibility in the matter, and it has pretty well n decided that unless safe repusitorii-s are installed the Post Office will decli e to leave tha litters. 1 his, of couise, would cause th 3 folks concerned a g<>od many trips to the delivery counter at the office. As trie convenience of many of ou- readers may be affected we are passing 00 the gentle hint.
