HOUSE BURNT DOWN. On Friday morning, about 11 o'clock, a house belonging to Mr E Frewin, of Whiri YVhiri, was destroyed by fire. It id not known how the fire originated, as the place was closed and its own;r away working. It was a very old building and was insured in the New Zealand office. Everything was destroyed. SHIED AT A MOTOR CYCLE. A motor cyclist passing along the mßin road towards Otaua on Thursday caused a horse and trap to start off, ard the resjlt was that the vehicle was slashed up. It was the property of Mr Codlin, of Whiri Whin. HARVEST FESIIVAL. The Harvest Festival services in connection with the Holy Trinity Anglican Church were held on Quinquagesima Sunday. The Church was most tastefully decorated despite the fact of there being less fruit and flowers than last year. The Vicar preached appropriate sermons, and the congregations Wire large. The fruit and Vigetibles were sent on tu the Children's Home, Poaaonby. RAILWAY INCONVENIENCE. Great ioconvenience is occasioned by the delay in obtaining goods from Auckland, owing to the Railway Department keeping the goods waiting at/the goods-shed in Auckland instead of forwarding promptly to Oi.ehurga for shipment by steamer. Thia past week the local stores were kept naitirg so that several lines had run out. SALE OF WORK.
On Saturday a sals o' work, in aid ol the pew orgau for the Methodist is to be held in the Wsiuku Hal). The sale will commence at 2 o'clock and be continued through the evening. For a lorg time past preparations have been in hand, and as reasonable prices are to be the ordsr of tbe day everything should find a ready sale, ara thi funds should he substantially augmented.
