MAUKU ROAD BOARD.

Monthly Meeting. The monthly meeti g cf (he above Board was held in the Patumahoe Hall on Saturday, inst, whsn the following members were present Messrs S. Pilgrim (chairman), J. Adolph, J. Henry, W. Howard, J. Clark and iha clerk (Mr A E. Wright). WAIAU WHARF.

A letter was received from Mr H. Dell, of Pukekohe, compliining of the bad state of the Waiau wharf, and asking the Board to look into the matter. There was no shed accommoda ion; and guods landed on the wharf were left cut in all weather. It was also dangerous to approach the wharf with a wageon, as there was no- room in which to turn it was resolved to reply that steps were being taken to have this wharf erected on the old oite. A £rant of £IOO had been given which would be subsidised by the Waitiu Ward, and a good wharf and accommodation would be provided. CARTING SPAWLS. A tender was received from Mr J. Brady for carting spawls from Moire's quarry to Church road at 4s 9d per cubic yard. No deposit was enclosed with the tender, but it was agreed to accept conditionally on the deposit being remitted. uOVERNMENT GRANT WORKS Re tenders and specifications in connection with Government grantsMr Henry repotted that these had been unaccountably lost from hia shop and no trace of them could be foand. Mr J. Quinn attended and said he was prepared to put in tenders for some of this earthwork, but no plans, etc., were available. It was agreed to get copies of the plans from the engineer and extend the time for tendering. METAL WORK.

The Chairman reported that spawls broken by Messrs Benge and Eieenhut in Mrs Runciman's quarry could not. be got out unless a road wjrj made to tnem. It was pointed out that the specifications stated that spawls had to be left where a cart could get readily to them.

Tbechrk was instructed to write to Mr Ferguson and arrange with him to crush 200 yards of spawls on the Church road. Mr Howard said that the road would want raising along the flat by Mr Wily's gate before the metal was put down. WRIGHT AND QUINN'S ROADS. The specifications for work on th?se roads were read, and it was pointed out some very bad places needed attention before the winter. The Chairman said that as a lot ol metal was cow necessary on the roads, he did not thiuk any money would be available for this work.

Mr F. Kavanagh, senr., attended and requested the Board to let him have dog collars at the cost price, and contended that he should not have to pay a dog tax as his dogs were kept solely for drovers' purposes. He said this privilege was granted by other Boards and he argued it should be exterded to him.

The Act was read, which showed the Board had power to make certain exceptions, but as the dog tax was fixed very low it was agreed to make no exceptions in this district. DANGEROUS HOLES.

Mr Kavanagh also reported the bad and dangerous holes on the road between the Roman Catholic Cburch and the Patumahoe School. He said some serious accident would possibly take place here and tha Board would be responsible. A i the Patumahoa Ward members had left no action was taKen. WHAKAPAKA DOMAIN. In response to a request trom Mr Yates, it was agreed to appoint him custodian of this Domain. MISCELLANEOUS.

Dog tax. —Agreed to re-appoint Mr W. lnomasasdog registrar for the present year, the fee to be 2s 6d a dog as formerly. A certificate from the Board's engineer stated that Mr A. Moore was entitled to a progress payment of £IOO on his Waiau contract. Accounts tutslling £l7l 17s 5d were passed for payment. Mr W. J. McFadden attended and submitted a tender of 4s per yard for carting spawls to Church road, but as Mr tfrady's had been provisionally accepted earlier in the dav this could not be considered.
