TUAKAU.

J STOCK SALE. < Messrs A. Bu kland and Sonß' oale on Thursday, last week, was —as now seems to be the rule here—a very small one. Wby the surrounding farmers do not suppurt these sales better is a wonder, for with the support Tuakau should have from Whangarata and Onewhero, as well as its own district one would expect a sale not far short of Pukekohe's. The auctioneer (Mr C Brooks) did his best to sell, but most of the stock offered was passed in. The prices seemed right, tor one promin-| er.t dealer said he got £2 lis for, calves he was only offered 35a for at Pokeno on Monday previous. The auctioneers have over ten acres of land here and are anxious to make a good sale, having so much interest in the place. It ia a pity they do not receive mare encouragement, STREET IMPROVEMENT.

Some street improvements are badly needed in Tuakau to bring the township into conformity with places of even less importancs. Tuakau has a big future in front of it, and the residents should welcume a special rate or loan that would improve iheroading. The writer understands that some important alterations are to be made from the station, such as rounding off a sharp corner and tilling in a useless cavity, but the footpath and streeting question needs immediate attention to make tne township in decent order before the winter.
