WAIUKU.

PUBLIC and temperance HALL. Tbe annual meeting of ratepayers for the purpose of hearing the report and balance- heet of the committee of management of the Waiuku Public and Temperance Hall, also for the ekction of a committee for the ensuing year, took (lace in the hall on Tuesday. Mr C. T. Barriball, who was voted to the chair, sa'd be wai surprised that the ratepayers showed such little interest in their own property. The notice ot the met ting bad been advertised and alao po ted atout the twnship, yet there were only 10 ratepayers present which waa just sufficient to term a quorum. He then calhd upon the secretary to resd the minutes of the last annual meeting, also tbe report and balanceshee'. Tbe m nutes revealed the fact that tbe last annual meeting waa held in January, 1908 The financial position was not thtn as satisfactory is it should be, the accounts, by resolution, baving to be audited by two auditor?. In reply to a question hy a ratepayer it was stated that this had not been done. It waa announced tbat tbe treasurer's book was Inst, and through the lack of interest oi the ratepayers to attend (only 10 being required) an annual meeting, no report or balance-sheet had been preparid. Il transpired that during the five years only one committee meeting was held, and ibat the whole management had been conducted by tbe secietary. The amounts collected by him ware at different times handed to the trcasuier and paid into th<> bank to the rr dit of two tru*t e», there being at the presei.t time about £lsl in the bank.

Comment was made upon the laxity of the Mangement I'oimilttee, and the chairman said tbe ratepayers were themselves as much to blame for not taking that amount of interest in tbe ball, which was practically their own property, by attending the annual meetings to know how things ™ore carried out. It was resolved that the accounts be placed in the bnnrs of Mr W. J. King for audit, and report t> the new committee elected, namely, Messrs A. May, Henry King, P. Dunn, A. James and H. Taylor.
