ILLNESS. 1 am sorty to report that the illness ot Mr H. Jolly, senr., has taken a more serious turn. As previously reported Mr Jolly was taken to Auckland to undergo an operation for appendicitis, but since then pneumonia has developed. Mr Jolly's condition is causing his relatives and friends much anxiety. [Since the foregoing was put into lype Mr Jolly's death has occurred, the tad evert taking place at 11 o'clock en Tuesday night. A widow and family of five are lefc to mourn their loss. Rsr Jolly was 57 years of age and had been uut from Scotland about three years. Much sympathy is felt locally for the bereaved family.] MAKING HAY. Aka Aka people have not as yet gone in extensively for hay, but such paddocks as were closed this season are now bein? cut. Last year only three or four people took this precaution for winter feed, but this season the number has been doubled** This spring Mevsrs Louden Bros. had hay to feed to their stock and the result in milk production waa an eye-opener to tha suppliers to the factory, who now realising the value of winter and early spring feeding. HOAD FORMATION. Operations are now in hand for improving the Aka Aka-Puni road. The cutMng on the hill leadini? from (he swamp is being widened and the earth carted on to the Swamp road, • filling up the depressions in preparation for the metal. The metal is being carted in spawls from Mr Massev's farm on to the roadside, where it will be crushed. DAIRYING. Our creamery is steadily going ah?ad. The amount ol butter-fat supplied during the month oi October was 44,69"f1b5, which shows an increase of ll,lslJlbs for a month. This amount at Is per lb amounts to £2233 to ba divided between 43 suppliers. I think this a very good return for a amall district. LIVE STOCK TRADE. At the last horse sale a good muster went from this district, and a larger number came back again. Messrs Holmes and Potter brought fittv through. A local buyrr tcok a muster of 65 pies last week, and all appeared to be well done At Buckland's last sale there was a good muster of cattle, including beef, stores and calves from this district. FISHING EXCURSION. Mr R. Hlgginsi.n had another excursion down the rivet, kawai and mullet fishing. I hear they had very good sport catching kawai with the pawa shell. DRAIN WORK. Messrs Powell and Furness have restarted their contract at the Arrowville drain, and are making very good progress with it.
