THE FIRE BRIGADE.
We publish, with great reluctance, the letter from the Hon. See. of the Pukekohe Fire Brigade, which appears in another column. Whilst being giatilied at the appreciation of the Brigade for the view the Times took of the position as it affected the Brigade, we are soriy to learn that it is tho Brigade's intention to resign. This decision [which we hope will he revoked} may possibly have mure far-reaching consequences than some of the Councillors, to say nothing of the members of the Brigade themselves, are aware of. In ne»v boroughs inexperience frequently creates misun lerstaielings and it was with a view to avoiding difficulties that we suggested that the Borough Council should appoint a permanent committee of its members to smooth over the troubles as they arise. Although we feel hound to publish the li tter to which we have referred we trus; that it is not linal. It would be a most serious blow to the protei tion of property and perhaps life in this borough, if tho Brigade took such a step as to resign in a body, and we hope that the decision which appears to have been taken will be reconsidered.
