(Own ' BOWLING AND TENNIS. The official opening of the Waiuku Bowling and Tennis Club's greens topk place on Thursday in ideal weather. Ihere were representatives (rum Auckland and elsewhere, and the folbwin; Clubs sent members:— A-'ickland Bowling Club, Mr S. (loldir tt: Ponsonby, Meßsrs Parson 3, McLnod and Badeley; Stanley Bay, Mr Stevenson; Mount Eden, Mr Mercer; Oliehunga, Mr J. J. Shaldrick; Fokrkohe, Messrs Barter, Graham, Egginton, ai.d Perkins; also Messrs J. and C. Molloy and Perrin from town. The President, Mr S. T. Rossitier, welcomed the visiiois acd afternoon tea and refreshments were dispensed by Mrs Koesitter and wives of the members, assisted by the young ladies. A pleasant afternoon was spent. The matches played by President v. Vice-President resulted in the latter winning after a keen contest. The greens were io excellent form. At the cnrclusion, Mr. Badeley returned thanks for the way in which the visitors had been received, and the gathering dispersed after cheers had been given for the hosts, their guests, and the ladies. VEHICULAR COLLISION. A collision between two traps occurred on Friday night near Mr F. Grimaer's resid-nce As Constable Moffitt and Mr A. J. Barriball were returning from on the soft part of the road t jeir light had just tone out, when they suddenly collided with anulher trap driven in the opposite direction by Mr Bishop and Miss E. Barriball. The wheel of Mr Moffitt's trap went right up to the hub of th 3 uther vehicle, and canted over so much that Mr Moffitt was thrown out and severely sliauen. He, however, retained hold of the reins. Mr Barriball was not thrown out and got off lightly, as did the accompanying occupants of the other trap. Very slight.damage was done, and each party waj able to proceed home. METHODUT CUUKCII. The Rev. Colin C. Harrison gave a talk on Gipsy Smith, the famous Evangelist, in the Methodist Church on Friday evening, to a fair audience. The lecture was very interesting, being ptrponai reminiscences, and was ill istra'.ed by several solos sung by the reverend lecturer, who has a phasing voice. The collection was for the Home Mission Funds. FATAL ACCIDENT 10 HORSE. 1 have been asked io relate a peculiar accident which befol a horse belonging to Mr E. R. Chandler some few weeks ago. The pony was running about arour.d the house, which was bounded by soma tall pine trees, and which had their lower branches cut off, buc leaving some prongs projecting out. In the morning Mr Moffitt wa3 going by and noticed the animal ftar.ding with a piece of stick protruding from its brsia and in great agony. He immediately got Mr Moffitt and they extracted the siick, which wa3 ruu intc the brain some 8 or 10 inches, and had the p:or creature shot. It is th-ught that the pony was Irightened at sumething, and in jumping a small drain fell and ran againßt the projecting stick which was about 3 inches in diameter.
