AN OVERDUE ACCOUNT. An immediate settlement of £73 2s 6d, doe last April as interest on some borrowed Town Board monies, was demanded, During the evening Cr Pcllock figured it oat that only £259 would be available for roads. The Mayor: There will be very little for roads this year. 1 doubt if there wiill be £259, there are so wan? old debts coming to light that have been unprovided for. THOSE METAL TRUCKS

The foreman said that Mr Roulston was very sore over the new road through his property tot being pushed on with more quickly. The Mayor, said that sruria had been written lor and the work would be pushed on ati soon as possible. Cr Pollock thought it was a good time now to give the Railway Department acothrr shaking up for the trucks. Shortage of trucks was the genital excuse. The coal mines were icle row and plenty of trucks should be available. He moved, That the Railway Department should be written to urging that the necessary scoria toe sert down without delay. Seconded by Cr Johns and carried, cr E-SOKES. The foreman said Mr Roulston had ask d to have an eye-sore on (he piece of road abuttirg on the road, near the stableman's cottage, in Hall-atreet, removed. In np!y to Cr Hamilton, the foreman said he had gore over Puni road and Douglas' road, and it would take 1500 or 1600 yards of metal to put ihose roads in anything like order at all. At lis a yard this would mean that £BOO or £9OO would he needed. The Mayor (to Cr Pollock): You will have to find a gold mine or something out your way. Cr Pollock: It's for you fellows to find the gold. CAPE HILL ROAD.

The foreman suggested tte Cape Hill road should Le closed against velicuiar traffic whilst the work there is in progress. Mr Clews said it wnuld take thiee months to do the work, ;.nd if it were kept optn it would cost one-third m.re than if it were cl* std. It was lift ! o the Work- Committee tn take the necessary steps tT close the read. THE WA'IER SUPPLY.

The Mayor reported that he had that afternoon visi ed the waterworks. The machinery appeared to ba in ird r and working well. The air compressor was going and they were puaipirg into Ihs reservoir. There seemed to be plenty of water, and everything appeared to be going splendidly. During the past few days they had not been pumping into the reservoir, but had been keeping the pipes full so gs to provide for the consumers.

CATTLE IN HARRIS STREET. Cr Pollock wanted to know if sometbicg could not oe done in Harris street to keep the cattle off formed footpaths. Unless something were done this path would be trampled otst of existence shortly. Perhaps a couple ot wires might be put up. Hundreds and hundreds of cattle were tramping o/er the path. It would be a pity if something wrre not elone. The Mayor: Ihe cattle may yet have to go round the road by the water power-house. Cr Han ilton suggested that a few check rails might be put acrcss 'he path et intervals. He moved, That the foreman be asked to report upon the most suitable way of dealing with this matter. Cr Polluck seconded the motion.

The cattle would have to be kfpt off the paths or else they would have to go round, ihtre was 40 doubt about that. Cr Ccmrie did not think a couple of wires would be any aood; they would have to fence it oil' altogether. UOAO SCtiAPER A ANTED. When King street gets d;!y the borough workmen labouriously shovel the muck away. If the weather I e suitable the road dricM quicklv; if rain foll.w>, in an hour or two the highway is as bad as ever. The foreman suggested that a scraper should be purchased. Kir.g street was in a disgraceful state. Slu>'.filing was out of the question, and a waste of time. He rould not say what the scraper would cist, but thought a secondhand one might be pic k- d up. '1 he Mayor said the str.et was in a terrible mes*. there was no doubt about that. lh«y wo-jld have to do something. Cr Comrie. A scraper should be ;t lot cheaper than doing it by hand. Crs Connie and Kenrelly were appointed to get information and rt purl to the next meeting. KECKEA 11UN GIiOUNO.
