WHANGARATA.
On Friday evenirg, 18th i st., the social committee held a successful dance, being favoured by a fine night. The attendance was up to the usual at these dances, visitors from several other districts being present. The music was supplie I by Mr E. Faus.tt, of Puk~koh?, on the violin; extras by Mr T. Ciiplin and Mr Syd. Fitness (sccordeon). Dancing was kept up well into the morning. Several farms are changing har>ds. Mr Davis has sold his to a Mr Rideout, who takes possession almost immediately. Mrs Cooney, one of the oMest residents of the district, has leased hers for a term of fyre years, the netf-comers being expected at once. Mr A. Br»-e has leased bis ?arm on a purchasi g clause.
On Saturday morning members uf the Pukefcoha East Hoard Board anl several residents met to inspect the locality an the Whangarata Rh'tr load, near' Mr Ewing's residence, under discussio.i at the last meeting of the Board. Matters warmed up to such a pitch between two of those present, that a display of their pugilistic ability wai male. 1 believe it was finally agretd to make several improvements on the road. Mr John Whiteside has had the mi-fjrttine to lose the first finger of h;s right hand, through an accident while working a flaxmill. Uur creamery io now in full work, and present prospe ts are promising fur a very successful season.
