PAPAKURA.

A meeting between the Chairmun of the Manukau County Council (Mr McKenzie) and the different Boards interested, was held in the Parish •Hall, on Monday afternoon. Mr McKenzie gave those present a good insight into the working of the Counties' Act, and although he is not a firm believer in the dual control of Council and Boards, he thinks it has advantages For one thing the Council will obtain road implements, crushing plant, etc., the use of which the smaller bodies can get. Mr Willis, chairman of the Papakura Town Board, stated that as his Board hoped to get exemption from the Counties Act before April next, (on a population basis) they were quite prepared to maintain their proportion of the Great South Road. Bridging Hingaia Creek. After the above a meeting was held to decide what steps should be taken, re the building of the bridge across Hingaia Creek, (between Papakura and Karaka). On the suggestion of Mr McKenzie, a motion was passed requesting the chairman of the Karaka Board to call a meeting of all local bodies interested at the Karaka on a date to be fixed. This bridge is undoubtedly coming, it will open up a lot of good dairying land that is-now almost isolated, and will bring the districts beyond Karaka, much nearer the railway. The Papakura Football Club held their first annual ball in the Public Hall an Friday Evening. The function was a great success, about 50 couples being present. Messrs J. Walker, J. Cossey, J. H. Walker and E. Moody acted as M's. C. Dr. A. W. P. Brookfield commenced practice in Papakura last week, and it is to be hoped that the Doctor has come to stay; professional service of a resident medical man has been a longfelt want in the district.
