WAIAU PA.

The Waiau creamery started on August 1, and is running twice a week until more suppliers are able to send their milk. Football started here a few weeks ago. The McLarin Bros kindly gave their paddock for the use of the team. The team consists of Learning bros, McLarin bros, S. Forbes, H. Clark, N. Clark, N. Lichfield and J. Forbes. They anticipate playing the Patumahoe team at an early date. A dance was held in aid of the Tennis Court. Music was supplied by Messrs McLarin Bros, and Geo. Talke. The ladies kindly provided supper, and dancing was kept up until an early hour. The Club hopes to hold these pleasant little gatherings every fortnight, weather permitting. A few fine days have enabled the farmers to proceed with their work. Mr J. Henry, of Patumahoe, is having 60 acres of oats and 20 acres of western Walsh grass sown. Mr Tates is putting in 100 acres of peas on the Karaka farm. Mr Mcljarin, sen., has just purchased from Mr Gillanders another farm consisting of 420 acres, situated on the Manukau harbour, near the Waiau Pa wharf. This makes the second farm this gentleman has purchased this year. He is making vast improvements in his Pollok place. He has had a shed, stable and wharf built, and is now having a large area ploughed up to fallow. Mr Geo. Learning has had an up-to-date milking machine installed on his farm. Mr Schlaepfer is also having one erected this week, which makes the third one here now. The private telephone is to be erected as soon as possible, and the trustees aru making good progress with the affair. The telephone will be very beneficial to the settlers of this district. Mr C. Roper has a fine crop of early potatoes, looking well. This reflects great credit upon the grower, and s]>eak.s well for the quiility of the land, which a few years ago was looked upon as useless.
