Football Dinner.
At the Railway Hotel on Thursday evening the United Football dnb was -.-Tendered a complimentary dinner by Mrs Pickett, wife of the club's president. About 35 guests were present. The dining hall was attractively decorated with the club's colours, a football with red and white streamers being a prominent feature of the decorations. Mr W. C. Pickett, president, was in the chair. After an Bicftllfmt repast had been enjoyed, the chairman, in a loyal speech, proposed "The King!" " The United Football Club " was . proposed by Mr H. 8. Valentine. By winning the Union championship, said the proposer, the club had achieved a notable success, considering the disadvantages they were under. Members of the club lived far apart and the ground was in very bad order. With respect to the latter the trustees of the ground were going to d"» their best to have the ground imId for next season. (Applause), sponding to the toast the captain i. Dean) thanked the members > club for their hearty co-opera-luring the season and expressed iciation of the assistance rendered e officers of the club and the eof the district. A great deal of iet had been taken in the games, ially by the fair sex. Individudie members of the team had s a very sportsmanlike spirit and s the club • success had been due. W. Anderson proposed the rlan Rugby Onion." He conid the standard of play in this i was equal to that of any of the clubs he knew of. Yet they a new club and only one team in aion (Tuakau) had ever played 8. He predicted even better i in future. W. Smith, in responding, said aion had been carried on in a [ax manner, but he wished it success in future. e " Host and Hostess," proposed r G. E. Morgon, was enthusiastreceived.
