League. A general meeting of the Mercer District Progressive League was held on the sth inst, Sir Pickett in the chair. A set of rv es was adopted and several members n are elected. It was resolved hat an application be made to the P at and Telegraph / Department and a! » to the Minister to put a telephone xchange in Mercer • at once as it is moi t urgently needed ; also a new post ofl ce, as the accommodation is at ] resent quite inadequate. The Minister for Railways is to be written to and aski I to push forward the Pokeno-Paenx railway with all possible despatch. Several members brought forward a proposition that the Chief Postmaster be written to and a ked that arrangements he made to 1 ave a delivery of telegrams from 1 okeno tolegraph office up to a mile rt dins. It was resolved to write the member for the district and ask for information re the taking jf land which is lying idle and which could be utilised for the erection of w irkmen's homes.
