THE USE OF THE STICK.

Discussion by School Committee. At the last meeting of the Pukekohe District High School Committee M|r Wilkinson asked if the incffecriainate use of the stick by pupil teachers was permitted ? The Chairman (Mr Lawrie): No ; the regulations provide that punishment shall only be inflicted by the headmaster or assistants.

Mr Patterson: Let it go. It does not do them any harm to get whacked. The chairman and Mr Perkins concurred in the view that their offspring got all they deserved. Mr Wilkinson : That may be. It's the principle lam going for. If the regulations say that only the headmaster or assistant shall inflict pun-, ishment why should a pupil teacher do it?

The Chairman: It's generally understood that they are not to do it. Mr Wilkinson: Well, it's been going on quite recently. He moved, Thnt the regulations be carried out, and that a copy of the resolution be sent to the headmaster.

Mr Daysh seconded the motion. Mr Perkins: The hoadmaster may ask what complaints have been made. Mr Wilkinson : It's for the headmaster to keep his eyes open. Rev Dobson : Then he must bo able to see through a stone wall. The motion was carried.
