PUKEKAWA.
Recently Mr Frost's traction engine, which hauls lus chaff-cutting plant, went through a bridge here and dropped about 15ft into tho creek. Fortunately no one was injured, and after a few days the engine was bailed out and resumed its journey. The roads at present are in a voiy bad state, caused by heavy rains on the new formation work recently done. II the bad weather continues the roads will be almost impassable in some places. The new school was opened here on Monday week last. It is in a convenient place, just opposite the post office and creamery. The Pukekawa Football Club has withdrawn from the Cup matches in the Raglan Rugby Uuion, owing to lack of support, both financially and otherwise. It is a pity thore aie so few good sports in the district. A meeting of the Pukekawa Farmers Union Sports Club was held in the new school on Friday night. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £2 16s, and it was decided to carry this amount forward, for next year's sports. A meeting was also held to considor the best moans of liquidating the money owing onj the piano, and the amount, together with an extra £2 to get the piano, insured and a cover for same, was subscribed by those present. i A meeting was held to form a branch of the Political Reform League at Pukekawa, Mr V. Dunlop in the chair. It was unanimously decided to form a branch here, and the following officers were elected for the ensuing year :—President, Mr 0. G. Brewster; vice-presidents, Mr M, Orr and Mr G. Morrison; secretary, Mr V. Dunlop; treasurer, Mr N. Hawke. The above gentlemen were also elected a comrrittee.
