A strong gymnasium club has been formed here. Officers : President, Mr M. Foley; vice-president, Dr H. H. Cheeseman and Mr E. R. Bell; committee, Messrs Fern, Scanlen, J. and W. Pirrett, 0. Backalick, Acton and Johnson; hon. secretary, Mr W. J. Deeble. A Ouii Club lias also been formed and the Club intend oponing on the first Saturday in August. Officers: — President, Dr 11. 11. Cheeseman ; vicepresulonts, Messrs M. Foley and \V. Deeble; committee, Messrs W. Deeble (jun.), Strahan, W. Brooks, F. Woollov, and B. McGahan ; hon. secretary, Mr C. E. Bo)'. To night's ball, organised by the townspeople to raise funds for the purchase of an Ashfiold littor, promises Itobo a big success. The ball is to be held in Messrs Gruen and Colebrook's now grain storo, which gives ample floorage, and the iloor itself is firstdas?. There is a strong committee in charge of the arrangements, and Mr W. J. Deeble is secretary. A succossfi:'. social was given in the Presbyterian Church recently, there being a big attendance in spite of the hclement weather, The Rev McDonald was iu the chair. A musical programme was successfully rendered, those contributing to the evoning's enjoyment being:—Mrs Hunter, Misses Sciinlon, Hunter, E. Cross, and Messrs Whiteside and Scanlou. Little Miss Strahan gave a pleasant recitation. Duriug the evening opportunity was taken to preseut. Mr and Mrs H. Wuudbridge with u gift chair, they having just returned from their honeymoon. Mr A. Madill made tho presentation, and Mr W. J. Maddl replied on boha!f of the recipients.
