Owing to the difficulties experienced in getting chaff cutting and threshing done in good time to compete in the early markets, two enterprising gentlemen (Messrs R. Fenwick and Jos. It was pointed our. that the practice of " tin canning " at weddings was creating drinking habits amongst the youths and young men of the district, and was a cause of alaim to parents. The complaint of a mother was hoard, in which she stated that her son under twenty-one had given away to drink, his appetite being fostered and fed at the " tin cannings." It was unanimously agreed to enquire if the authorities have power to stop the attendance of youths at theso " tin canning" orgies. To start a Temperance meeting for adults and young peoole was agree 1 upon, the first meeting to take place in August. It was repoKel that "The Children's Happy Hour" was now we'! under way, and hid found favour to a great degree amongst the children, the Revs Vaughan, Barr and Laybourne taking it in turn to address the meeting. The hounds met on Thuisday week at the Waitangi crossroads, butowiug to the had state of the weather there was only a moderate Attendance. Mr Mr Selby was in good form, having recovered from his recent illness. The course lay over the properties of Messrs W. Hoskin, C. J. West, Connor, and Sargood. There were soveral good runs but no kills. Spills were the order of the day but no one was seriously hurt. Mr C Knight, of Packington, has sold out his farm at £l9 per acre, after a few months s'ojouru here. The roads in Waiuku and adjaceut are in very bad condition aud noid attention.
