MERCER.
On Tuesday last the usual Court day sitting was adjourned, owing to ~ the shortage of Stipendiary Magistrates. The district is at least one short of requirements. There were a i couple of assessment cases set down f or hearing, but as these were out of the scope of justices they were adjourned. v> The river has been running very high during the winter— higher than . at any time since the flood of a • few years ago. The improvements and extensions -s to the local factory suggest that a greatly increased output is expected. " Double last year " is what is aimed at. - We need a Progressive League here very badly. At present there is no united action in anything, and the township, which uught to be bright, is quite dreary. Hope soon, however, to be connected with the outer world by tele- * phone, and improvements at the post office are projected.
