POKENO.
Death of a Pioxeek. It is with sincere regret thai I have to record the death of Mrs Rebecca Jane Turner, at the Auckland Hospital, on July 3rd. The deceased lady was only failing for a few days when her medical adviser ordered he/ removal to the Auckland Hospital to undergo an operation. This was successful but the age of deceased, - Viz, 68, was against her and the heart failed about an hour after the operation. Mrs Turner arrived in New ZeaL > land 46 years ago, in the ship Ganges, and has lived in Pokeno since her ajyiiml from County Down, Ireland. Of a direct and chivalrous nature Mrs Turner made many friends and she leaves behind her, four sons, four daughters (all married) and 34 grandchildren. She was twice married. Her first husband was Mr Christopher Reathern, and the second Mr W. De Turner. The funeral took place on Saturday upon the lurival of the express train at the station. . The Eev. Thos. Fisher (Anglican) read the burial service, and the remains were followed to the Church of England Cemetery by a large number of relatives and friends. Thus another of the once large band of early pioneers of the district has passed iway.
