SPORTS' CLUB CONCERT.

On Saturday night the urometers of the Pukekohe Sports Ciub must have been happy men—and probably a little bit proud —at finding the seating accommodation at the Oddfellows Hall taxed. To be able to say " full house " under the unpleasant weather conditions that prevailed that evening nitty be fairly regarded a3 an indication that on a fine night it will be au adaptation of the old saw " the early comer getting the seat. And the audience had no cause for regret at having come out, and their hearty applause was a tribute of appreciation to the performers. The first half of the programme took the form of a concert. Mrs Pilkiugton, who was in grand voice, gave a fioe rendition of "Bid me toL-vo" and in response sang "I Think."' Miss Smith and Mrs Blamires were both recalled for their items. The others numbers on this part of the programme were * quartette in which Messrs J. Roulston, W. Jones. G. Blake and A. Young took part, a recitation by Rev. Blamires. The second part was aptly described as minstrel melodies, jokes and sketches. The four corner men Messrs R. gttvens, J. Walsh, B. Andrew and A. Young aid the interlocutor Mr W. S. Russell kept the fun going, and numerous local " hits " and allusions caused merry, laughter. The musical portion was contributed to by Miss" Smith, "Come Down from Big Fig Tree"; Mrs B. Andrew, "Loch Lomond " ; Mr R. Stevens, " Rags ; Mr A. Young, " Lily of Laguna " ; W. Jones, " Have vou ever Loved any other Girl"; Mr J. Walsh, "Am't you going to say How-do ? and Mr B Andrew, "Don't take me Home. In every case the choruses were taken up by the company grouped on the stage. To make an amateur minstrel show run siqoothly is no easy task, and the fact that there was not a hitch in Saturday night's entertainment speaks well for the stage manager. Just a few special words about the orchestra pianist, Miss Penman ; violinists, Mrs Andrew and Miss O'Connor; clarionetto, Mr Ord : trombone Mr C. W. Lodge: cornets, Messrs Swann and H. McMahon; with Mr McMahon conducting. It was their debut, and may they become one of Pukekohe's recognised institutions. They may deservedly be complimented on their playing but please, Mr Conduct" >r, a little less forte in the accompaniments to the songs.
