THE TOWN CLERK.
Mr J. F. Deane Appointed. There was very keen competition for the Town Clerkship of Pukekohe. No fewer than forty-two applications were received for the position, including a number of first-class men. Several candidates from outside paid visits to the town in order to make themselves kpown to Councillors. At ten o'clock on Wednesday night the Council tackled the task of selection, and it was after midnight when this was completed. After full consideration the selection fell upon Mr J. F. Deane, who for the past seven years has been employed in the accountancy branch of Mr W. Koulston's business. Mr Deane's abilities and character wore known to all the Councillors, and this advantage was the deciding point More particularly as so many good men offered themselves, Mr Deane is to be congratulated upon his appointment. We wish him success in his responsible position as the chief executive officer for the borough.
