Waiuku.
Railway Lkaoik. The annual meeting of the Waiuku branch of the Railway League met at Waiuku on Saturday," Ist iust. Mr <'. T. Barrihall, who was in the chair, explained the doings of its members during the pa«t year, ihe result of their labors being shown to have considerably advanced, and it was thought no more petitions would be required to further the object after the suppoit promised by the Reform Party at the meeting held in honor of Mr. Massey on Friday last. What would be needed was one or two delegates to proceed to Wellington at the proper time, and then have the support of the gentlemen who have now personally inspected the district, and eoen the two large sheds at the wharf completely blocked up with goods and manures, while tons upon tons of produce is being held waiting for the chance to get it away. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted. It was decided to canvass the district for subscriptions towards defraying the expenses of delegates who, on behalf of the whole district, gave their time to further the progress of the Railway League. Some £SO was readily subscribed in the room. Mr C. T. Barriball was elected president, it being explained that Mr J. E. Makgill, who had devoted so much of his time to the work, had now left the district and had other important matters to attend to. Messrs A. M. Barriball and J. Albrecht were elected VicePresidents ; Mr L. Shakespear, secretary and treasurer; committee, Messrs J. D. Chalmers, J. H. Herrold, E Barriball, Fenwick, 1). Makgill, W. Cameron, W. Smith, C. West and W. West. Accident. An accident happened Friday morning last, when two miik suppliers to the Otaua factory, who were trying to negotiate a bridge at a fair rate of speed, collided. The result was that the weaker of the two teams was forced through the side rails of the bridge and precipitated in'o the creek below, the driver being buiied under the call in the water. Fortunately he managed to find his way from under the upturned cart containing six cans of milk, and came to the surface uninjured. Willing hands wore soon on the spot, and after cutting the harness, did with some difficulty got the whole concern once again on terra firma, minus the milk.
