Davis hafc promised a football for use, and 'donated a guinea towards the finance! of the Union. Votes of thanks were passed to M. Davis and to the thairman (Mr Mr Foley). Foundatk n Stone. The laying of th; foundation stone of the new Catholic Church was carried out on Saturday ast by the Ven. Archdeacon Brodi°,]who had with him Fathers Holbrook jand Kehoe. The function was largely attended, and the words of Father Brodie were listened to with much interest. A collection was taken up to augment the building fund. Mr Tom McGuire was married on Tuesday, last week, to Miss J. Andrews, of Onewhero. The marriage took place in Auckland. The weather has not deterred the sporting people in the least. One party got out on the Waikato at 4 a.m. on the Ist, bagging 40 ducks, some -quail and pheasants.
