Progressive Leagie. At the last meeting of the Progressive League there were present: — Dr. H. H. Chaespmrtii (chairman), Messrs J. Fulton J W H. N orihiuoi e, H. Craig, C. C. Tincii, W. J. Deeble, 11. Free, W. Bavnaby, D I niton, J. H. Beale, and A. T. Tapper (secretary). It was decided to support Messrs J. 11. C:aig and W. Barnaby at l lie Road Boird elect or. The League ai e issuing lists to receive subscription for an Ashtield litter. The secretary v as instructed to write to the Minister f >r Railways, asking him to visit Tu ikau and receive a deputation on rail nay matters affecting this district. The Progressn>» League has been persNteut in its r spiesentations to the the Postal l)epa -tment for improvements, and an outcome is that a c.unt if nil letters recei* e«l through the post office is being ta ;en with a view to ascertaining whe'.l er Tank in warrants a letter carrier. The good work )f the League is now manifesting itself. New Foot ull Union*. A meeting was lield iu the Tuakau Hotel to form a ne ,v Union embracing clubs from Onewli >r.>, Pukt k twa, Kohouga, Mercer, P ilcpiio and Tuakau. The proceedings rere very enthusiastic. Madiil; Vice P esidents, a number of gentleman drawi i from districts over which the Union extends; Secretary and Treasur.ii , Mr ft.. 11. Tapper. Mr E. Davis hafc promised a football for use, and 'donated a guinea towards the finance! of the Union. Votes of thanks were passed to M. Davis and to the thairman (Mr Mr Foley). Foundatk n Stone. The laying of th; foundation stone of the new Catholic Church was carried out on Saturday ast by the Ven. Archdeacon Brodi°,]who had with him Fathers Holbrook jand Kehoe. The function was largely attended, and the words of Father Brodie were listened to with much interest. A collection was taken up to augment the building fund. Mr Tom McGuire was married on Tuesday, last week, to Miss J. Andrews, of Onewhero. The marriage took place in Auckland. The weather has not deterred the sporting people in the least. One party got out on the Waikato at 4 a.m. on the Ist, bagging 40 ducks, some -quail and pheasants.
