FARMERS' UNION.

Pukekohe Branch Meeting

The annual meeting of the Pukekohe branch, held on Saturday night, was attended by Messrs J. W. Johns (in the chair) C. K. Lawrie, H. A. Stuart, T. Hogan, G. Beatty, A. E. Wilkinson, J. Schlaepler, T. Appleby and D. B. Hamilton (Secretary.) The annual report reviewed the year's progress, showing an increase in membership and an improvement in the financial position. "We have justified our existence," it said. A discussion on "' farmers and the strike " ended iu the decision that at the present juncture the branch, while appreciating the action of the Provincial Executive, did not think it necessary to say what the farmers would do if a strike occurred. It would depend, they said, upon the circumstances.

A number of remits (which have already appeared in the Times) were dealt with and Mr D. E. Hamilton was elected to represent the branch's views at the annual conference on May 23rd and 24th.

Officers elected were:—Messrs J. Schlaepfer (President), A. E. Wilkinson and J. W.Johns (Vice-presidents), I). E. Hamilton (Secretary and Treasurer), E. J. Eames (Auditor), and Messrs R. Johns, C. K. Lawrie, T W '•■ r: iv,-:,- T IT . ■ T
