The trial fours were contested very keenly. In the first heat Hunter's crew won by half a length. The crews were: J; Hunter (stroke), M. Kapa (three), M. Roose (two), W. Colley (bow); against J. Roose, D. Hassett, P. and R. Kelly. The second heat was won by T. Wright, E. Pope, E. Sweeney ar-d C. Tribe; against M. Sweeney, F. Wright, J. Barron and W. Collins. This was another half-length victory In the third heat the winners were Ripbon, Sweeny, Bilderbeck and Barron ; who defeated Tregoweth, Hunter, Barrow and Hammerton. C. Rippon drew a bye. Semi-final —In the tussel between the crews of J. Hunter and T. Wright, the former won by about 200 yards Owing to the roughness of the water Wright's boat became partly full so that they did not travel at more than a walking pace. Final—Between the crews of Hunter » n d Roose, An exciting race was witnessed, The two boats were locked together almost all the distance. First Roose would be in front, then Hunter would gain on his opponent about a foot. After tremendous barracking Hunter won by about 6 inches, The local ladies gave an afternoon tea in the Rowing Club's shed and the refreshments, were greatly appreciated by the rowers.
