JERSEY BREEDERS.
SOUTH AUCKLAND CENTRE j Opposed by Matamata. At the last meeting of the Matamata Jersey Club opposition was expressed to a suggestion from outside that the South Auckland Centre controlling Jersey clubs should be resuscitated. Mr. Garland introduced the subject, stating that at Te Aroha it had been suggested to him that the South Auckland branch of the Jersey Association should be resuscitated. A paid secretary might be necessary. Mr. Vosper said it was a good club at one time, but latterly a mere handful did the work. If a secretary was to be paid it would be a big burden. Breeders were far more alive under the Matamata club than they had been under the South Auckland club. Mr. Barker agreed, holding that a multiplicity of parent bodies did not tend to promote keenness or efficiency. If there were questions outstanding then a conference of clubs could be called to settle the matter without having another body between them and the New Zealand Association. The chairman agreed, stating that formerly the question of remits caused considerable trouble, and they were never sure whether their remits ever got to headquarters. Now that they were affiliated direct they got answers quickly. Mr. A. E. Missen supported these remarks, stating that his club had found that remits had at times not been forwarded to headquarters. This was a very unsatisfactory state of affairs and did not tend to keep matters up to date, as they were at present.
The chairman said it was apparent that members were generally opposed to the idea of resuscitating the South Auckland Association, but he did not think a motion was necessary. The subject then dropped.
