School Ball. The following report of the annual school ball was supplied by a pupil of the Tokoroa school:— On a recent Friday night the Tokoroa school held a fancy dress ball in the Tokoroa Hall in aid of school funds. Never before was seen such a large, brilliant and animated gathering. The hall was artistically decorated with red, white, orange and green streamers, with lights intermingled, and a large bell hung in the centre. The floor was in splendid order. The music, provided by the orchestra from Putaruru, was excellent, and the generous supper provided by the ladies was all that could be desired. Messrs. Craydon and Lory were M.’s C.
At 8 p.m. sharp the children led off with the grand march, then changed into the “ maze,” then broke up into a polka. It was a pretty sight to see the children, all of whom wore fancy dresses, going through the intricacies of their dances with that ease and precision that only patience and careful training can accomplish. A change from the usual “ school dance ” programme was introduced by every other dance being for adults. In this way the children were rested and the older folks were warmed up. At 10.30 p.m. the children’s programme ended and the floor was given over entirely to the adults. It is impossible to describe all the pretty and varied costumes worn by the children, but suffice it to say that all showed much thought and care in design and originality.
