WAIKATO EAST MATCHES. Rain interfered with the tennis fixtures set down for Saturday. The following are the results of inter-club matches played under the auspices of the Waikato East Lawn Tennis Sub-association:— Matamata A 16, Wardville A 3. Hinuera A 13, Okoroire A 6. Te Whetu B 14, Okoroire B 5. Putaruru B 2, Tirau B 8 (unfinished). Matamata 16, Wardville 3. The Matamata A team visited Wardville on Saturday and won by 16 matches to 3. Results were, Matamata players being mentioned first : Ladies’ Singles. Miss Bell beat Miss Carroll, 7—4 ; Miss Robinson lost to Miss Phillips, 7—3 ; Mrs. Spence lost to Miss Johnstone, 7—3 ; Miss Landells defaulted to Mrs. Brooks. Ladies’ Doubles.—Misses Bell and Robinson beat Misses Carroll and Phillips, 7—6 ; Mrs. Spence and Miss Landells beat Miss Johnstone and Mrs. Brooks, 7—6. Men’s Singles.—Green beat Gauntlett, 9—7 ; Wells beat Parker, 9—o ; Keeley beat Ashford, 9—o ; Hitchcock beat Clark, 9—2 ; Egan beat Chapman, 9—3 ; Davies won from Gardiner by default.

Men’s Doubles.—Green and Wells beat Gauntlett and Barker, 9—7 ; Keeley. and Hitchcock beat Ashford and Clark, 9—2 ; Egan and Davies beat Chapman and Gardiner, 9—-0. Combined Doubles. Green and Miss Robinson beat Gauntlett and Miss Carroll, 7—6 ; Wells and Miss Bell beat Barker and Miss Phillips, 7—6 ; Keeley and Mrs. Spence beat Ashford and Miss Johnstone, 7—6 ; Hitchcock and Miss Landells beat Clark and Mrs. Brooks, 7—6. Hinuera A 13, Okoroire A 6. This match was played at Hinuei-a on Saturday and resulted in a win for Hinuera by 13 matches, 129 games, to 6 matches, 80 games. Putaruru B V. Tirau B (unfinished game). The Putaruru B and Tirau B teams were set down to play on the former’s courts. A start was made, but owing to the rain only the ladies* and men’s singles were finished.
