Tirau.
W.D.F.U. The Tirau branch of the W.D.F.U. held another very successful dance in the Tirau Hall on Tuesday last. There was a large crowd present, and all spent a most enjoyable time. Excellent music was supplied by Mrs. McLaren and orchestra, an extra being played by Miss Hamilton (Te Aroha). Songs by Miss de Silva were much appreciated. A card dance competition was won by Mr. Hetherington and Miss Clarke. The latter was also the winner of the prize for the lucky cap number. Mr. Bert’ Syme was M.C. Mountaineering. A party of Tirau residents, consisting of Misses J. and C. Webster, Miss Dagg, Miss Day (Raglan) and Messrs. Methven and G. Neels, spent a'l enjoyable and novel holiday over the week-end and Labour Day. The party left Tirau on Saturday night and travelled continuously to reach the National Park. On Sunday they enjoyed the thrills of mountaineering, and left on Monday, arriving home in the evening after having travelled approximately 274 miles. All speak in enthusiastic tones of the experience, with the exception that it was too strenuous to be brief.
