Mokai.

Football. The football season was brought to a close this month, when a social evening and dance, organised by the East Taupo Rugby Union, was held in the Mokai Hall. The Mokai club , had a most successful season, win- | Bing the three trophies which are * competed tor annually, viz., the Garxatt championship shield, the subunion banner for the team scoring l the most points during the shield competition and also the White cup, awarded annually to the winners of a knock-out competition, which is held at the close of the season. Seven teams took part in the shield games this year, and competition was very keen, especially in the first round. Golf. The Golf Club has just completed a successful season, and the members are arranging to have a dance and presentation of trophies on Friday, November 9. The winners of the various competitions held during the season are as follows: — Ladies. • Sealed handicap and _ L , medal final, Miss Andrews; stroke v competition, Mrs. Woods; trophies donated by Mr. Booth, Miss Andrews 1, Mrs. Barnes 2; ladies* championship, Mrs. Barnes. Men.—Sealed handicap, T. McGregor; medal final, A. E. Law; stroke competition, R. Watson; men’s championship, W. Dibley. Tennis. Unfortunately tennis prospects for this season do not appear very bright. The courts, being on native ground, have been taken over by the landowners, and at the moment it appears that the local tennis club will lose possession of its courts. It is to be hoped that some way out of the difficulty will be found before long, as it will be very unfortunate if the local people are to be deprived - , of their principal summer game. Industrial. The new mill which is being erected by the T.T.T. Company to replace the one destroyed by fire last November is now nearing completion and has the appearance of being a very up-to-date plant. All being well it should be ready to commence cutting in a few weeks. Needless to say, there is much speculation locally as to how much it will do, how many bands will be needed, and whether it •will stai be necessary to work full time. Most of the men who were displaced after the fire have been em--1 ployed on the construction.
