A REGRETTABLE SPIRIT.
THERE has recently been developing in Putaruru a feeling of apathy among several local hodies and a section of the community that is extremely regrettable and does not augur well for the future of the town. In regard to local bodies, the feeling complained of has-been most apparent in the Chamber of Commerce and the Ratepayers’ Association. The first-named body finds it difficult to get a quorum for the monthly meetings, and the work has fallen to the faithful few.
The latter body started off well, but their enthusiasm apparently was only short-lived, and the association is to all intents and purposes defunct, if judged by its activities. As for the community at large, perhaps it is a case of hope deferred making the heart sick, but be this as it may the feeling of apathy is plainly discernible and should be checked. A variety of circumstances have combined to delay certain work that will add to the attractiveness of Putaruru, and nothing is to be gained by lapsing into a spirit. of “ don’t caredness.” A greater interest and faith in the town is needed, and if exercised must make for a brighter and better Putaruru.
