THE PUTARURU PRESS. 'Phone 28 P.O. Box 44 Office Oxford Place THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24, 1929. OVERSEAS VISITORS.
ON Wednesday next a party of Tasmanian farmers will visit Putaruru, and as the visitors are the first to come to us from overseas, the event is one of more than usual interest. The local branch of the Farmers’ Union has solicited the aid of other local bodies in the town and district, but unfortunately little enthusiasm has been shown. This is regrettable for the visit is not that of merely a band of farmers; viewed in the larger light the Visitors can be regarded as ambassadors of goodwill from a neighbouring country, and as such they are entitled to a welcome extended by all sections of the community. The welcomes extended to the southern farmers ,on their recent visits were greatly' appreciated, and must have done a great deal to enhance Putaruru’s reputation for hospitality. Surely the fact that our forthcoming visitor? are strangers within our gates calls for even greater hospitality. It is to be hoped that the visitors will be given a welcome on Wednesday, the memory of which will be one of the most pleasant of their tour.
