Considerable importance attaches to the sailing from Australia of the first wool ships of the season and the progress of what is known as the wool derby is watched with much interest in commercial and shipping circles. The first ship to sail was the C. and D. Line motor ship Port Alma, 7983 tons, which started from Sydney Tuesday week. The four ships mentioned in the cablegram last week are the White Star-Aberdeen Line motor ship Coptic, 8281 tons (owned by Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, Ltd.); the Blue Funnel steamer Troilus, 7648 tons; the Nordeutscher Lloyd steamer Aller, 7627 tons; and the Swedish motor ship Mirahooka, 5979 tons, which was loaded by the Austral-European Line. All five ships are fully loaded for Dunkirk. Hull, Antwerp, Hamburg and London. With four days’ start on Wr rivals, the Pott Alma will, bar accidents, be first Home; but as the others are very evenly matched in speed, all being 15 knots ships, their race will be an interesting one.
