PESTS IN AUSTRALIA.
{ METHODS OF CONTROL. It is hoped to have The laboratories in course of erection at Canberra ready this month to house entomological staff of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. Much information regarding the blowfly, the buffalo fly and white ants, and the possibility-of I controlling plant pests, such as St. John's wort, by means of beneficial insects, has been obtained. Several varieties of insects are about to be imported from abroad to test their value in the control of plant pests. Three different strains of insects were to reach Australia from Europe at the end of August. It is hoped that they will prove as useful in Australia as in the South of France, their native home, where they are reported to keep St. John’s wort almost entirely in check. The council proposes to appoint an entomological draftsman and artist to make detailed drawings of the various insects and parts of insects necessary for record purposes.
