“ What is the life of a concrete road ?” This poser was fired unexpectedly at the engineer of the Mount Roskill (Auckland) Road Board at the last meeting of the Roskill West ratepayers, when forthcoming loan proposals were under discussion. “ The perfect road material has rot yet been discovered,” replied the engineer. “ Concrete is the most permanent method of construction as vet, but road construction is dependent on so many different factors, including climatic conditions and the class of traffic, I am absolutely on firm ground, however, when I tell you that the concrete we propose to put down on the Mount Albert and Three Kings roads will outlast the lifetime of the loan, a period of 30 years.” .
