POWER OR ROW BOATS?

THE FORMER BANNED. Acclimatisation Meeting Discussion. The action of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society in prohibiting troll fishing from power boats was referred to by Mr. Barnett, of Waotu, at the meeting of the society’s Putaruru branch on Tuesday evening. In entering a strong protest against this step, Mr. Barnett stated that there were many days on which it was not possible to use a row boat. The secretary said that last year a protest had been made, and the society compromised to the extent of allowing troll fishing from a row boat. The chairman (Mr. Flyger). stated that the idea was to find out what the lake was capable of in the way of fishing.

Mr. Barnett said that if that were so they had better close the lake. It was absurd to say that it was possible to catch more fish from a power driven boat than from a row boat. The chairman stated that the action of the Auckland society in allowing row boats to be used was in the nature of half a loaf. Mr. Barnett closed the discussion by giving it as his opinion that the action was not in the best interests of the society to power boats, and it was decided to write to the Auckland society on the subject.
