Te Whetu.
Women’s Institute. As a result of the visit of Miss Spencer, Dominion organiser for the Women’s Institute, a branch has been formed at Te Whetu. Mrs. F. Lake was elected president, Mrs. Alcock vice-president, Mrs. E. Randell treasurer and Miss C. Jefferson secretary. Mesdames Farrell, E. Randell and Ottaway were elected a committee. The second meeting of the institute was held on Wednesday of last week and a fine display of work was on view. An apron made by Mrs. Ottaway won the first prize, the work of Mesdames Alcock and E. Randell tying for second place. Useful household hints were exchanged, and an enjoyable afternoon tea was followed by community singing. The institute has justified its existence in that a large collection of (Continued in Next Column.)
left-off clothing has already been sent to a needy family in the district, and at a school concert sweets made by the members realised a large sum. A magazine club is proving a useful branch of the activities of the institute.
