Arapuni.
Presentation to Rev. Wareing. The esteem in which the vicar of Putaruru, Rev. S. R. Wareing, is held in Arapuni was strikingly demonstrated at a farewell social and dance in the social hall at Arapuni last week. The attendance was not confined to residents of the township but the neighbouring settlements were strongly represented. The hall was tastefully decorated, and dancing was indulged in to firstclass music supplied by Mr. Edgards orchestra. Mr. McNeil was a successful M.C.
During the evening a short programme was presented, the contributors being Miss Higgins (pianoforte solo), Mrs. Edgar (song), Mr. Rainsford (song), Miss Donnelly (fancy dance), and the items were greatly appreciated. The outstanding event was the formal recognition of the guest’s services, Mr. Clark making the presentation. In handing Mr. Wareing a handsome smoker’s table in hammered brass Mr. Clark referred in eulogistic strains to the vicar’s untiring services in Arapuni, and assured the latter that such had been deeply appreciated. They regretted Mr. Wareing’s departure but rejoiced at his promotion. Mr. Clark concluded by extending the best wishes of those present to their guest. Mr. Wareing’s mother was the recipient of a rose bowl and vase.
Mr. Wareing, who was greeted with cheers and the singing of “ For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” thanked the donors for their gifts and good wishes. The ladies provided an excellent supper. The committee responsible for the organisation of the function were Mesdames Geddes (secretary), Steele and Walker. Mrs. Clarke was responsible for the collection of the subscriptions.
