CONGRATULATORY SPEECH.
BANKER and DAIRY CO. Adoption of Standardised Cheese.
Among those present at the annual meeting of the Tokoroa Dairy Company on Saturday was Mr. Barkman, manager of the Matamata branch of the Bank of Australasia (the company’s bankers), and after the luncheon adjournment Mr. Barkman was introduced to the shareholders by the chairman of directors, Mr. John Mossop. Mr. Barkman, in a brief speech, congratulated the directors and shareholders on the balance-sheet, characterising it as one of the best he had seen. A comparison with the 1927 balance-sheet revealed that the figures ail through had been doubled, and it must be gratifying to the company. He strongly advised them to adopt the standardisation of cheese for the price of production was not worth while worrying about, whilst the increased price received for the overrun was most surprising. Standardised cheese was selling well on the London market. The overrun was made into butter, the profit of which went to the cheese supplier.
The Taranaki payout was Id. to 2d per lb more than the Waikato, due to standardised cheese. He also advised them to go in for waxing, for it reduced shrinkage and suggested the directors visit the Sunny Park factory to see the process.
In expressing his pleasure at being present, Mr. Barkman stated that he was surprised at the progress of the district. He complimented the manager and staff of the factory on the cleanliness that prevailed. (Applause). Mr. Barkman closed by paying a tribute to the directors, and wished the shareholders a successful season.
On the motion of Mr. Bryant a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Barkman for his address.
