The belief still exists in many parts of America that New Zealand is a part of Australia, according to Mr. F. J. Needham, of Christchurch, who has just returned to Christchurch from a visit to the States. “ The idea seems to stick, somehow,” he said, “ while the notions of some people are even more quaint than that. I had an appointment while 1 was in San Diego to play golf with a business man, and was afterwards to meet his family. Their first question, on hearing that I was a New Zealander, was ‘ls he very black?’” A general knowledge question in a well-known Churstchurch girls’ school the other day produced ar answer reflecting on the sanity of politicians. The girls were asked what was No. 10, Downing street. One prjrl replied: “A well-known lunatic asylum.”
