EMPLOYING CITY YOUTHS.
WORK ON THE LAND.
Morrinsville Union Cautious.
The question of whether the Morrinsville branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union should co-operate with the Auckland Chamber of Commerce in the scheme put forward by the latter body for the employment of city youths on farms was put forward by Mr. A. Topham at Saturday evening’s meeting of the branch. Mr. Topham suggested that the branch communicate with the chamber and offer to co-operate in any way. The president, Mr. G. Pirrit, said the position was rather a delicate one. He understood that the boys were recommended by the chamber as being suitable for employment on the land. On the other hand it was suggested that the union should recommend suitable farmers as employers. It was a well-known fact that some farmers were hard on their boys. If the union said that a certain farmer was not suitable it was looking for trouble from that man. Mr. bigfirer than that. Mr. Pirrit : We must be careful when we start casting reflections on farmers. It was decided to write to the Auckland Chamber of Commerce and ask for particulars of the scheme.
