LORRY REGULATIONS.

BREACHES GF ACT. Fines Inflicted. At the Magistrate’s Court at Putaruru on Thursday, before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., W. Woods, who did not appear, was charged on the information of Ernest William Jordan, traffic inspector to the Matamata County Council, with not having a heavy traffic license and with not having an indication disc, both omissions being breaches of the Motor Lorry Regulations Act. Mr. Dallimore appeared for the inspector. The inspector’s evidence was to the effect that he was on duty cn the Wardville-Waharoa road when he saw the defendant’s lorry. He accosted the driver, who failed to produce the license when asked for it. Witness asked that the license be sent to the county offices, but this was not done. Later he saw the driver and the lorry when the indication disc was produced, but not the license. The defendant subsequently took out a license some time after the occurrence.

On the first charge the defendant was convicted and fined £2 and costs 10s, and on the second £1 and costs 10s.

UNLADEN WEIGHT NOT SHOWN Ordered to pay costs. E. W. Jordan, traffic inspector, Matamata County Council, proceeded against. W. H. Kuhtz for failing to show the unladen weight on his lorry, as required by the regulations.

A plea of guilty was entered, and when asked by the Magistrate iX he had any excuse to offer, the defendant said that his only excuse was that he had never been asked by the Piako county to do so, therefore he had not bothered.

The defendant was ordered to pay the court costs, 12s.

OVERWEIGHT CARRIED. Driver Fined. The driver of the previous defendant’s lorry, R. Groube, pleaded guilty to a charge of carrying a greater load than the lorry was licensed to carry.

It was stated that the official (E. W. Jordan) had stopped the driver, who was engaged in carting metal, and when weighed the- lorry ar.l load was found to be nearly one ton overweight. Groube had nothing to -r.y in the way of excuse, and the Magistrate inflicted a fine of 20s with court ' costs 12s.
